The voice—thin, intense, harsh, opening up to multiple modulations in a play of whispers and screams—is at the center of Medea Material by Agata Tomšič. The actress, author, and director, who is one of the two souls of ErosAntEros, continues her journey of vocal-sound research. In doing so, she manipulates a difficult, alive, and radical textual material—that of Heiner Müller—and, together with Slovenian composer and sound designer Matevž Kolenc, builds a physical-vocal score that grants no respite, screaming the condemnation of the margin, of exclusion, of betrayal.
With the profound voice of a woman, mother, lover, goddess, and murderer, she works on the materials composed by the German playwright to give life to a figure of Medea who looks at the myth while confronting, without unnecessary frills but with great delicate passion, the dramas of the present. Between darkness and a sparse, suffused light, Agata Tomšič gives life to a performance where the voice accompanies and emphasizes every gesture, becoming the absolute protagonist of a struggle between good and evil, the sacred and the profane.
