flatus vocis locuz. lat., propr. “breath (flatus) of voice (vocis)” – hence breath, afflatus, wheeze of voice, “sound emission”.

Whenever I go back to using my voice, after some time has passed, a great emotion runs through me. The awareness of this polymorphous and wonderful organ, capable of infusing breath into words, the spaces between them, and the signs from which they are formed, overpowers me. Thanks to it, our breath enters the interior of characters through a simultaneously playful and erotic exercise of bringing into flesh, into life, ghosts, that is, those fragile skeletons on paper that survive us through the centuries.

In this short masterclass, I will focus on this exercise. I will share the methods I have experimented with during my artistic and educational journey to put it into practice, moving through John Cage, Diamanda Galás, Italian research theater, and the international masters I have been fortunate to meet. A sampling of sources, prompts, warm-up practices, music reading and composition.
