Nympha as image. Rarely appears. Only to whom is seeking.
Nympha as reflection. Mirror. Other part of reality. Beyond a threshold. That can’t be crossed.
Nympha as hallucination. Ancient memory. True or imagined. That comes to find us.
Nympha as dream. Perverse, yearned. Reiterated. Sickness of an obsessive mind.
Nympha as double. Light, shadow. Peculiar madness.
Nympha as ghost. Present and absent. Abstract. Impalpable.
Nympha as fragment. Without place nor time. Perceptible through suspensions.
Nympha as movement. Elusive. Barely impressible on the retina of the viewers.
Nympha as knowledge. Quiet. Charm that enchants. Terrible.
“Condemned to an incessant, loving search for man, the nymphs lead a parallel existence on earth. Created not in the image of God, but in the image of man, they constitute a sort of shadow for him, an imago and, as such, they perpetually accompany and desire – and are, in turn, desired by – that of which they are the image. […] The nymph is the image of the image, the figure of the Pathosformeln that men transmit from generation to generation and to which they link their possibility of finding themselves or losing themselves, of thinking or not thinking. […] Like Paracelsus’ elementary spirits, images need, in order to be truly alive, to be united with a subject who takes them on; but in this encounter – as in the union with the nymph-undine – there is a mortal risk. In the flow of historical tradition, in fact, images crystallise and transform themselves into spectres, to which men become slaves and from which they must always be freed again.”

The performances were accompanied by Mnestic contagions, a project of contaminations on the theme of the nymph. During each meeting the nymph imaginary created by the company was expressed and submitted to an external gaze, with the aim of a mutual contagion. Thanks to these meetings the starting iconographic Atlas grew acquiring new influences. The final Atlas of the project can be navigated at this link.
