Agata Tomšič, dramaturg, actress, director and theorist, was born in Koper (Slovenia) in 1986. Since she was a child she studied dance, piano and music theory, took part in several theatre workshops and worked for Koper-Capodistria TV and Radio station.
In 2005 she attended DAMS – Drama, Art and Music Studies in Bologna and took part in many workshops with the protagonists of the contemporary theatre scene (including Teatro delle Ariette, Fanny & Alexander, Cathy Marchand / Living Theatre, Teatro Valdoca, Motus, Csaba Antal, Pathosformel, Anagoor, Francesca Proia, Chiara Guidi / Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio). She obtained her Master’s Degree in Performing Arts in 2014 (supervisor Prof. Marco De Marinis), combining her artistic career with a deep reflection on contemporary compositional methods and vision, publishing her writings in books and journals (AkropolisLibri, “Culture Teatrali”, “Engramma”), curating publications (Editoria & Spettacolo) and winning literary and theatrical awards.
Since 2013 she focuses on acting work, frequenting Odin Teatret (especially Roberta Carreri, Eugenio Barba and Julia Varley) and participating in the FIND plus Festival 2015 of the Schaubühne in Berlin, thanks to the Prospero project of ERT – Emilia Romagna Teatro. In 2018 she attended the Avignon Seminar, promoted by Festival d’Avignon, Pro Helvetia and MIBAC, and led by Eva-Maria Bertschy (dramaturg of Milo Rau). In 2022 she returned to Festival D’Avignon through an internationalization project of the European Theatre Convention, Europe’s largest network of public theaters.
Since 2020 she’s an active member of EASTAP – European Association for the Studies of Theater and Performance.
In 2023 she obtained the Second level Master’s Degree in Vocal Music Singing and 20th-century and contemporary music theater at the State Conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi” in Ravenna.
Since 2010, besides her work as actress, she shares with Davide Sacco the artistic direction of ErosAntEros and is in charge of the dramaturgy of all its projects. Since 2018 she directs with Davide Sacco POLIS Teatro Festival in Ravenna. In 2020 she is also consultant for the Piran2025 European Capital of Culture candidacy, working with Davide Sacco on the conception, development and artistic direction of the Istrian International Centre for Contemporary Performing Arts.
